The Lesser Black-backed Gull (Larus fuscus) is a type of migratory seabird which is often confused with it’s environmental companion, the Herring Gull. The taxonomy between the two is very complex, but they are indeed two completely different species. They both even have a very similar call, that resembles laughing, except Lessers have a much deeper tone to their call. Like most of the Larus gulls, they are omnivores. They’ll use their admirable hunting skills to pull anything, ranging from crustaceans to the dogfish pictured above, out of the water. Once they have their meal, the chances of them loosing it are slim. They’ll guard it from other gulls, and devour it right when they get the chance.
